Overview

Did you know?
Alexandra was established in 1912.

THE densely populated Alexandra township, borders and contrasts Sandton, the wealthiest suburb in South Africa. The sprawling township is characterised by scarcity of land, homelessness and a high rate of unemployment. But in recent years, the township, which is rich in history and is home to cultural icons, activists and sporting personalities, has been rejuvenated through the presidential Alexandra Renewal Project.
