Programmes and projects
Each
of the department's directorates is responsible for an aspect of the City's
public image.
Communications
This directorate is responsible for managing the
image of the City, liaising between City departments and municipal-owned
enterprises, and for public relations.
It manages media relations; issues press
statements on behalf of the City on key issues, such as World Aids Day;
organises information packages about the City on major events, such as the
formal opening of the council each year; and helps with the various mayoral
roadshows.
It also manages the executive mayor's media
interactions.
Events
The events directorate organises and manages
showcase City events, ensuring that they are safe and secure. These include:
- World Aids Day;
- Gay Pride;
- Soweto Marathon;
- Mayoral roadshows;
- Joburg Marathon;
- Discover 702 Walk the Talk;
- Pick n Pay 94.7 Cycling
Challenge;
- Budget speech and debate;
- Opening of council;
- Mayoral Christmas luncheon;
- June 16 events;
- Remembrance service; and
- Joburg Golf Open.
Marketing
The marketing directorate is
responsible for managing the perceptions and overall image of the City locally
and internationally.
This department is responsible for the City's
corporate identity and for marketing the major activities of Johannesburg.
Key to the marketing department is:
- The creation of "vibrant city interaction with its citizens and
stakeholders";
- Establishing Johannesburg's status as a world-class African city;
- Transparent
and accountable information sharing;
- Entrenching a culture
of service excellence; and
- Establishing
guidelines to ensure that all events within the City are appropriately
planned and that the City's image and brand is supported.
