A temporary venue at Constitution Hill – the Dome – will stand a little longer. It makes a fetching place to hold corporate functions and cocktail parties.
"We are partners, where JDA offers its exclusive site. Together this provides a complete solution for banquets, cocktail, mayoral functions, film and video shoots, theatrical and corporate events," explained Linda Wijnberger, the director of In2structures. In2structures approached the JDA earlier this year with a proposal to partner the project, Wijnberger said. Constitution Hill was chosen as the site for the edifice because, "with its view of the city of Johannesburg [it] offers a beautiful setting and easy accessibility, bringing people back to the city". She said her company was initially commissioned to build a venue for a ministerial breakfast in February. "The event was a great success and proved that many more events could take place there," she said, explaining why the temporary venue would stay a bit longer. "We have a couple of future events under consideration at the Dome." Erected on the far northern side of Constitution Hill, the Dome is an oval building that can be extended "with its novel appearance, adaptability and capacity".
The dome has become a prominent feature of the Joburg landscape
The company deals with designing, manufacturing and installing load-bearing structures. It also produces high-quality staging and scenery. At 28 metres in diameter, the Dome took five days and almost 40 people to set up; it can hold 350 to 400 people sitting and over 900 standing. It is pale on the outside and black on the inside, and is 12 metres high. "There is no particular corporate sector that it applies to; it is versatile so it could be used by any corporate client planning an event. It is particularly suited for product launches or year-end functions." The Dome has received approval from the Department of Public Works for presidential use and Wijnberger said this confirmed the business's belief that this venue is "of superior design and safety to any temporary structures available in South Africa".
