JOHANNESBURG'S theatres are buzzing with innovative, indigenous theatre telling the story of post-apartheid South Africa with passion and energy, accompanied by vibrant dancing and singing. The city's Market Theatre in Newtown is part of a new inner city cultural precinct, now a hive of arts and entertainment. The Civic Theatre is usually booked a year in advance with local and overseas productions, often on their third or fourth run to the city. Gold Reef City's Globe Theatre made its reputation with African Footprint, an exuberant celebration of popular South African music and culture. The show makes frequent repeat appearances at the Globe Theatre.
