THIS 200-seat restaurant in the Lonehill Shopping Centre has won a People's Choice award on the Eat Out magazine's website.

Part of its appeal is entertainment: the chefs are in the centre of the restaurant, where diners can see what they're up to. Co-owner/chef Ryan Pearsall imported the notion from Canada; he calls it "total transparency".

Diners can go for a R60 buffet or an a la carte menu with starters like salmon sashimi rolls or vodka and gorgonzola snails, and main dishes including various sizes of rump and fillet steak, linefish, pasta and seafood. There is a "waiting bar" and a deck that looks out over Lonehill.

Prices for the starters are largely in the early R30s (except for tarragon and lime scallops, which is R48). Main courses start at R45 for chicken liver fettuccine with peri-peri sauce, and go up to R85 for a 450g grilled rump espetada; desserts are in the early R20s.
