British singer and songwriter James Blunt will be in the city of gold in May
ALREADY this year superstars Elton John and Julio Iglesias have performed in Joburg. Now it's the turn of young James Blunt, who has serenaded us all with his radio-friendly hit, Goodbye My Lover.
The British singer and songwriter will be in the city of gold in May, hosted by Big Concerts and 94.7 Highveld Stereo; he will perform three shows in South Africa, the first at the Coca-Cola Dome in Northgate, on Saturday, 24 May. From there he will head to Durban and Cape Town.
"James Blunt is incredibly popular among our listeners and his songs are always requested on our playlist," said Highveld station manager Ravi Naidoo. "Fans and critics alike have described Blunt as a ‘fearless performer who consistently pushes his music to the edge' and his concert is guaranteed to be an absolute showstopper."
In the three years since Blunt released his debut album, Back to Bedlam, it has sold 11 million copies worldwide, reaching number one in 18 countries and cracking the top 10 in 35 countries. In South Africa, the album went triple platinum.
He was nominated for five Grammy Awards, landing the first number one single in the United Sates by a British act since Elton John's Candle in the Wind with You're Beautiful. He has also won two MTV Awards and two Brits Awards.
Blunt's new album, All the Lost Souls, which features the hit singles 1973 and Same Mistake, was released late in 2007; it has already reached platinum status in South Africa and has been playlisted on almost every radio station in the country.
James Blunt performs at the Coca-Cola Dome in Northgate on 24 May. Tickets are on sale at Computicket on 083 915 8000, through the Computicket website. Ticket prices range from R250 to R500, and the show starts at 8pm. It runs for one-and-a-half hours.
