THESE are the schedules for proposed loadshedding - when needed - for the various areas around Johannesburg. The loadshedding plan, drawn up by the City of Johannesburg, electricity utility City Power and Eskom, is based on:

  • Power cuts of a longer duration but less frequent
  • Equity (all customers included)
  • Ensuring a high degree of certainty for customers (predictability)
  • Combining both City Power and Eskom supply areas around Johannesburg
  • Ensuring a minimal disruption of major transport corridors
  • Minimising traffic congestion
  • Improving communication and customer understanding
  • Recording all actual load shedding in order to ensure equity in the long run
  • Reviewing these plans monthly
