DJ Krush Print E-mail a friend

DJ KrushHIDEAKI Ishi, known professionally as DJ Krush, was influenced by the first hip hop movie Wild Style that hit the screens in the early 1980s.

The Tokyo-born musician was inspired to learn how to spin the discs, becoming a pioneer of Japanese hip hop. By 1987 he had formed the Krush Posse, gaining a reputation as the best hip hop act in Japan.

Krush began his solo career after the break up of the group in 1992 and, according to his website, "soon grabbed people's attention as the first DJ to use turntables as live instruments, doing free sessions with live musicians on stage".

He has released numerous albums, the first being Krush in 1994. His sixth album, Zen, won the Best Electronica Album in the 2002 AIFM Awards.

Krush has toured internationally, taking his unique approach across continents from Germany and London to New York and Sydney.

With three decades of experience under his belt, Krush is constantly expanding his boundaries musically, seeking out innovation and inspiration. He also produces and remixes as well as creating soundtracks for movies, television and commercials.
