Bianca Williams

BIANCA WILLIAMS is a young woman who has been in the hip hop/poetry scene for 8 years. She is an extraordinary poet, rapper and singer.  Describing her art as her "inner guide to personal freedom", she started writing when she was 12 years old - attending poetry and hip hop shows religiously.  Having become an avid reader, she fell in love with words and discovered their power to shape all of existence. She believes that "the word is the strongest medium because not only does it speak to the mind, it also speaks to the soul."

Bianca started embracing the poet in her by writing and reading more about a wide variety of issues, writing about her own personal experiences, realities and dreams; exploring an art that had no restriction.  She includes rap, singing and poetry in her performances and has also been featured in several local r 'n b and hip hop projects.

She is currently working on her own album which is due for release in June 2008 and is featured on other hip hop projects such as, the Abomrapper II and the Classix compilation albums, also due for release in 2008.

Her music has enabled her to go places where she's never been and she hasn't looked back ever since!

Some of Bianca's most memorable performances:

  • BiancaBianca performed as a featured emcee alongside headliners such as Erykah Badu, Chante Moore and Kenny Lattimore in 2002 on their South African tour.
  • She also performed at Yfm's Birthday Party at Monsoon Lagoon, alongside Denim in the same year.
  • Bianca participated in one of the biggest 2010 campaigns, hosted by Love Life where she featured in print, radio and television, endorsing the "Love To Be There" message in 2002.
  • She also performed her poetry at the World Summit for Sustainable Development in 2002, one of the most momentous conferences to be held in the world.
  • Bianca also participated in various local festivals such as the Kliptown Arts Festival in 2003.
  • She has participated in various sessions held at the Horror Café,  where all those who are a part of the poetry community are given an opportunity to witness and participate in the experience.
  • Bianca is also a well-renowned emcee performing at local hip hop shows such as Kasimental, Black Sunday, Slaghuis, 1808 and Splash Jam respectively.
  • Her first big poetry performance came in 2003 when she was one of the artists featured at the Urban Voices poetry festival in Johannesburg.  She shared the stage with acts such as Lebo Mashile, Prof. Keorapetse Kgotsisile, Ursula Rucker and Black Ice.
  • Bianca was asked to return the following year to the Urban Voices stage, performing alongside artists such as Mak Manaka, Kgafela oa Magogodi, Stacey-Ann Chin and Sarah Jones in 2004.
  • Bianca has also done a series of radio advertisements for DStv in 2005 and 2006.
  • She also performed at the  'Young writers take stage at Windybrow Theatre" in March 2007.
  • She was the headlining act at the first Party People of the year in 2008 and was featured as a guest mc during Bahamadia's South African tour respectively. 

This young woman continues to shine as a performer and vows to continue living in word and rhythm!
