Iain Robinson aka Ewok Print E-mail a friend
Age: 24
Born: Fort Beaufort, Eastern Cape, 1981
Lived in upstate New York, USA from the ages of five to nine. 
Moved back to South Africa in 1990. 
Moved to Durban in 1998. 
Completed his Matric Certificate at Glenwood High School in 1999.
Completed his Bachelor of Arts Degree in 2003 at the University of Natal Durban with majors in Drama and Performance and English.

IAIN ROBINSON (a.k.a. Ewok) first appeared on the Durban scene at Poetry Africa 2002.  With a background in theatre and live music performance, Iain was auditioned and subsequently invited to perform his own HipHop influenced poetry alongside other young writers at the festival.  He completed his Bachelor of Arts Degree in 2003 at the University of Natal Durban with majors in Drama and Performance and English.

Iain is a member of Durban HipHop crew Illuminating Shadows who have spent the last year performing recording and producing original HipHop.  The crew has enjoyed successful performances at two local music festivals (Flux Music Festival 2003 and Splashy Fen Music Festival 2004) and continues to work within the Durban HipHop scene promoting a return to the original roots of HipHop culture.

As a poet and emcee Iain has worked consistently with Lliane Loots and the Flatfoot Dance Company on various productions including "Busy Being Blue" (2004), a choreopoem in which he performed some of his own original work alongside Quincy Fynn as well as an original text by Lliane Loots.  The piece also used adaptations of poetry by Allen Ginsberg, Jack Kerouac, Gil Scott-Heron and Alice Walker and was well received by Durban audiences.

Iain makes his living as a freelance actor, emcee and graffiti artist as well as performing regularly with Illuminating Shadows.
