Arts Alive 2008: Visual Arts PDF Print E-mail

UNDER the topic "Why public spaces vs. art galleries", this year's visual arts component is made up of interactive sculptural installations that comment on sustainable energy.

South Africa currently faces an electrical power crisis while also attempting to phase in power friendly bulbs and globes in residential environments.

A group of young Sowetans are taking a conscious energy saving stand in the public arena. Using energy consuming light bulbs and other recycled material these artists are bringing energy issues into the public sphere by making life size sculptures from recycled material that will initially be placed along the grass islands on Old Potch Road and after Heritage Month will be donated to various parks in Soweto.

When: 24 and 25 September
Where: the public spaces on Old Potch Road, Soweto
