 Mum-z has a supercharged imagination

Seven of South Africa's top comedians will keep the laughs coming, using everything from jokes to songs to wild antics to tell the stories of our lives.

LAUGH and the world laughs with you, as they say. And with seven top comedians on stage the whole Bassline is bound to crack up.

The funny guys are performing on 20 September at the Newtown venue. The show, Whack Jobs '08, celebrates the diversity and cultural richness of South Africa's entertainment industry. Hosted by Whacked Management, it reflects the day-to-day lives of ordinary South Africans.

"The show is for all Johannesburg residents who enjoy laughing at themselves and the unique situations in which we find ourselves on a daily basis," said Taffia Keight, one of the organisers.

Leading the pack is John Vlismas, one of South Africa's most prolific international comedians. Vlismas recently represented South Africa in Toronto, Canada, finishing in the top eight at the Yuk Yuk's Great Canadian Laugh Off. He has also performed at freedom day celebrations in Dubai.

Award-winning comedian Loyiso Gola is also part of the line-up. He has performed at numerous local and international comedy festivals, and his credits include opening for the international superstars, Russell Peters and Sugar Sammy, on their South African tours.

Gola will be joined by Al Prodgers, a firm favourite on the comedy circuit. An exceptional and versatile comic entertainer, Prodgers' unique brand of positive and uplifting comedy has earned him fans around the world. In 2007, he represented South Africa in the Yuk Yuk's Laugh Off, making it into the finals.

The only female in the crew, Krijay Govender is an accomplished actress, director and academic. She has worked in newspaper, radio, and television, and is well known for her hosting skills, having presented the Loeries, among other events.

Alyn Adams brings his quirky and insightful performance to the evening. A founder comic at the Civic Theatre's Punchline Pub, Adams has performed at almost every stand-up comedy venue around the country. His work includes jokes, observational comedy and song parodies.

Versatile and energetic Kedibone Mulaudzi gets the audience laughing at his antics. He has performed in numerous shows all over the country, such as the Comedy Blowout in Carnival City's Big Top arena, the Tukkies Comedy Festival and the Nu-breed Comedy Festival.

Finally, there is Mum-z, whose supercharged imagination and uncanny story-telling ability gets his audience fired up. Mum-z rose to fame in 1997 when he joined SABC as a presenter on the teen programme, Kidz Can. His love for theatre has led him to perform in many productions, including as Demetrius in the Shakespearean comedy, Midsummer Night's Dream, at the Grahamstown National Festival in 2007.

Whack Jobs '08 is at the Bassline in Newtown on Saturday, 20 September. The show starts at 8pm. Tickets are R60 each at Computicket, on 083 915 8000 or 011 340 8000, or through the Computicket website.
