THE annual panto at the Civic promises to be bigger and more spectacular than ever this year - Janice Honeyman is bringing back Snow White to the stage 21 years after she first directed the classic fairytale.

And it will have all the razzmatazz of a 21st birthday party. "Each year our audience expects us to exceed with surprises and over-the-top spectacle," said the panto's executive producer, Bernard Jay. "Janice and the team have been shopping around the world and I think the 21st anniversary all-star production of Snow White will live up to our panto reputation in every aspect."

Jay is also the chief executive officer of the Civic Theatre complex.

This year's panto will be complete with stunning sets and beautiful costumes. It will run at the Civic's Nelson Mandela Theatre from 20 October to 31 December. Snow White was first created by writer and director Honeyman in 1987, and was staged at the Alexander Theatre in Braamfontein.

It is a magical tale about a beautiful princess, Snow White, who is pursued by her cruel stepmother, jealous of her beauty. While hiding in the home of the seven dwarfs, she is traced and poisoned by the queen. The poison puts her into a deep and endless sleep. However, the spell is broken when she is awakened by the kiss of a handsome prince.

The irrepressible and irreplaceable Tobie Cronje stars as the evil queen Hilda Gonda Hoggaheim; a fixture in a Honeyman pantomime, he played Captain Hook in last year's Peter Pan. Cronje promises to scare the living daylights out of anyone who dares to come too close to her majesty.

Singer and actress Bianca le Grange has been cast in the title role. Opposite her is the young and hunky Daniel Buys as Prince Chuksie Charming. Buys was a top five Idols finalist in 2007.

Among the other cast members are Dolly Louw and Lutho John, who play the palace nanny's mischievous children, Dudu and Dompie. Steven Hicks returns to the theatre as Major Dom-o Doedelsak, following his lead role in the musical The Full Monty.
