TeepeeTEEPEE has proven to be the South Africa's most successful newcomer to the local RnB scene ever. His debut single, "Yes you, babe" earned him a Metro Fm award for ‘Best RnB' in 2006, as the song topped radio charts throughout the country.

Since then, Teepee's been busy in studio with partners in crime ‘Semi-Tone Records' and ‘Producers Playground', spending the past 2 years crafting the highly anticipated debut album. The album title, "My Perspective" speaks for itself, as does the success of the first single off the new album, "Hear Me Out" feat. MB, which has already reached #1 on the Metro Fm charts.

The album is set for release on the 1st September 2008, in partnership with Pro Play and Semitone Records, and has guest features by Nemza, MB, Collin Horn, Maker, and Candice.  "The album is based on my personal experiences and tied together with poetic justice."

Teepee's style is best described as modern RnB fused with hip-hop. "I want listeners to see my album as a ray of hope for local RnB, leaving them inspired and motivated."

No stranger to the airwaves, Teepee has collaborated with SA's top artists, the likes of HHP, Amu, Pro-Kid, Nemza, Mr Selwyn, Kentphonic, Pro-Verb, Zulu Mob, and most recently he joined forces with Bozza to create the hit track "Girls" which is presently doing the rounds on radio and TV.

Born Lefa Thapelo Masia, in January 1986, Teepee's love for music was formed at a young age when he first joined the church choir at the age of 8. Growing up in Mapetla, Soweto, Teepee moved onto singing in school choirs until he realized in grade 7, that he wanted to sing professionally. He recalls the turning point when he modernized the school song for a concert, and from then on he knew that he was born to sing. In 2004 Teepee started recording with Producers Playground colleagues Tela and Jabz. At first recording in a simple home studio setup with longtime friend Tela, and later that same year he started working with Jabz, Banele and Wandile who have remained the main producers at the reigns of Teepee's career ever since.

Around the same time, Teepee started performing regularly with both Amu and Nemza. Teepee's popularity grew fast, and he soon found himself performing alongside Kanye West and headlining events such as the Edgars Music Series at Bassline, Stars of Mzanzi, Woodstock 8 and the Rand Easter Shows.

His influences vary from the likes of Doni Hathaway, Musiq Soulchild, Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye to local legends Nana Coyote and Steve Kekana, who he credits for inspiring him to not feel pressured to sing in vernacular languages, preferring to write and sing in English, which he says "just feels right!"
