2008-10-03: Joburg Emergency Services operational PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 03 October 2008

THE City of Johannesburg, Emergency Management Services is fully operational after disruptions experienced earlier today as a result of an illegal protest action by some of its employees.

The emergency number 10177 has been restored and fully operational for all emergency service requirements. We urge members of the community to use this number for emergencies and not for to testing purposes or false reports (Hoax Calls) as this may clog up the system and compromise other residents who require urgent medical or fire services.

An interdict has been secured to prevent Emergency Services employees from participating in the illegal protest action.

The City's Emergency Services Department has managed to engage with other stakeholders, such as the Gauteng Provincial Government and EMS reservists to pull resources and expertise to ensure that essential medical and fire service are normalized.

The City would like to apologise for any inconvenience experienced during the disruption and is doing its best to keep the emergency services running.
