Weaving her magic: Donnagh Roberts is Charlotte

Take the kids on a pre-Christmas outing to the National Children's Theatre, which is again promising to delight young audiences with Charlotte's Web.

THE musical, Charlotte's Web, is back for a fifth season at the National Children's Theatre (NCT), and it "promises to be better than ever", says the artistic director and NCT founder, Joyce Levinsohn.

"Charlotte's Web is a heart-warming tale about friendship and unconditional love. The show is full of wit and charm. There are moments of humour and joy; the songs and harmonies are pure pleasure. This is a timeless tale which never fails to enchant."

The musical is about Charlotte, the beautiful spider; Gossipy Goose; Gloomy Sheep; and Wilbur, the adorable pig. Written by Elwyn Brooks White, it was adapted for the stage by Joseph Robinette and directed by Levinsohn.

"There will be great music, fabulous costumes and superb sets designed by Sarah Roberts."

While it is a children's story, Levinsohn points out the show is suitable for the whole family. The production is sponsored by the National Arts Council and the National Lottery.

Charlotte's Web is at the National Children's Theatre in Parktown, from 17 November to 20 December; show times are 9am and 10.30am during the school term, and at 10.30am and 2.30pm from Mondays to Saturdays during the school holidays.

Tickets are R60 for children and R70 for adults. Bookings can be made at Computicket, on 083 915 8000 or 011 340 8000, or through the Computicket website, or at the theatre on 011 484 1584. Block bookings and specials are available for schools, groups and birthday parties.

The theatre is at 3 Junction Avenue, Parktown. For more information, contact Sue on 011 484 1584 or visit the NCT website.
