With the cheapest seats at just R70 to watch a Confederations Cup match, Joburgers have been urged to go out and buy their tickets now.
Joburg is a host city for the 2009 Confederations Cup
GROUPS have been decided and fixtures have been figured out for the FIFA Confederations Cup South Africa 2009™; and now tickets are on sale - worldwide sales opened on 23 November.
The tournament, known as the Festival of Champions, is in June 2009. Following the draw at the Sandton Convention Centre on Saturday, 22 November, FIFA Confederation champions New Zealand, Iraq and Spain join host nation South Africa in Group A, while the United States, Egypt, Brazil and Italy fight it out in Group B.
Fans can order tickets online through the FIFA website. In South Africa, paper applications are available at all First National Bank branches. Tickets on sale range from individual tickets to a variety of ticket series, such as the Venue Specific Tickets (VST), which allow fans to attend all matches in a specific stadium.
The cheapest tickets for the Confederations Cup are R70 each.
The 2010 FIFA World Cup Organising Committee chief executive, Danny Jordaan, has called on South Africans to go out now and buy tickets.
"Nowhere else in the world can you watch matches of this calibre for R70. In Korea/Japan the cheapest tickets were $50 [about R520 today], in Germany they were €35 [about R459 today]. I am expecting the people of the four host cities to be the first in line to take advantage of this wonderful opportunity."
