Nelson Mandela Square in Sandton

Old Vegas is recreated, complete with the songs that made the era, in Rat Pack. The show is about the legendary Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Junior.

THOSE old Las Vegas legends, the Rat Pack, will be revived in a slick performance at Sandton's Old Mutual Theatre on the Square in July.

The original Rat Pack consisted of the 1950s and 60s American singing sensations who changed the way the world looked at music and celebrity - Ol' Blue Eyes himself, Frank Sinatra, and his sidekicks, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Junior, among others.

In the show, Dantanio Goodman is Sammy; Matthew Stewardson is Dean; and Patrick Tobin is Sinatra. The trio will recreate the era, with swing and jazz tunes, complete with a white-hot nine-piece big band.

Expect to hear Fly Me to the Moon, That's Amore, Mack the Knife, I Only Have Eyes for You and My Way, among other tunes, accompanied by stunning sets, lighting and audiovisual effects that will take you back to the Vegas of yesteryear.

The show is for "everyone who loves this [jazz and golden] kind of music", says Afro Asia's producer, Colin Law.

The music of these American stars has become eternal, with the recent Ocean's 11 movies and artists like Robbie Williams and Michael Buble bringing them to a whole new, younger generation.

Rat Pack will at the Old Mutual Theatre from 7 July to 2 August. Show times are Tuesday to Friday at 8.15pm; Saturday at 8.30pm; and Sunday at 3pm. Tickets cost R200 each and are available through Strictly Tickets or on 073 725 7381. Alternatively, call the theatre on 011 883 8606.
