Host cities forum
The Host Cities Forum, chaired by the 2010 Directorate, consists
of the nine host cities and the Local Organising Committee (LOC).It
meets on a monthly basis.
The host cities are:
Johannesburg
Johannesburg is the principal host
city for the 2010 FIFA Soccer World Cup. About 15 matches will take
place at the two main stadiums, Soccer City and Ellis Park. In
addition, Johannesburg will have a total of eight training venues.
Cape Town
Cape Town is building a new stadium for
the 2010 FIFA Soccer World Cup, in the suburb of Greenpoint, a stone's
throw from the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront. For more information, click here.
Durban
The King Senzangakhona Stadium is to be built on the site of the
demolished King's Park Stadium. It will have a seating capacity of
approximately 70 000.
The Durban International Convention Centre has been confirmed as the
venue for the Preliminary Draw which is scheduled for 23 November 2007.
Bloemfontein
The Free State Stadium, built in 1952,
will host games for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. A second tier of seating
will be added to the current stadium, allowing a total seating capacity
of 40 000.
Tshwane
Loftus Versfeld is a 50 000-seater stadium
in the heart of Pretoria. It requires only minor upgrades for the 2010
FIFA World Cup.
Port Elizabeth
A new football stadium, the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium, is to be built for the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
Polokwane
The Peter Mokaba Stadium is to be upgraded for the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
Nelspruit
The Mbombela Stadium is to be built for
the 2010 FIFA World Cup. A much-needed addition to Nelspruit, it will
leave a legacy of the beautiful game for the people of Mpumalanga.
Rustenburg
The stadium for the 2010 FIFA World Cup
is the Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace. It is owned by the Bafokeng tribe,
and it seats 40 000 people.
