THE Johannesburg Innovation and Knowledge Exchange (Jike) is the City of Johannesburg’s institutional response to defining, seeking, organising, nurturing and profiling innovation and knowledge resources. It is located within the Office of the Chief Information Officer and it is responsible for establishing and sustaining knowledge-intensive services that support the City’s vision of being a learning and knowledge-driven organisation.

The unit’s approach to knowledge and innovation is an integrated one. It has developed its work around three areas as part of knowledge optimisation:

  • Knowledge services, which focuses on sharing what the City knows with others and on bringing external expertise into Johannesburg;
  • Knowledge management and innovation, which focuses on building systems to harness knowledge in the City;
  • Knowledge products and multimedia services, which focuses on codifying knowledge and creating tangible multimedia products from various sources of knowledge in the City.
