Water supply will be interrupted in Northriding and surroundings due to urgent repairs to a burst on a major pipe line along Washington Drive. Processes on the repair are already underway and technicians estimate that it might take up to 72 hours to complete.

The pipe was damaged by a contractor, who was busy with pipe installation in the area.  Johannesburg Water is also engaging the contractor to recover on losses of water and repair costs.

This is because all contractors are required to obtain a way leave from JRA before they can work in the road reserve. Part of this process is to supply them with drawings of where our water and sanitation infrastructure is running.

Johannesburg Water apologises for the inconvenience to all affected consumers and appeal patience during this period.  Consumers in the area not experiencing water shortages are urged to reduce consumption to immediate household needs to avoid rapid decline in available supply.

Residents are reminded that level-2 water restrictions are still in place and must be adhered to.

 Level-2 water restrictions according to section 44 (3) of the Water Services Bylaw states that all consumers are forthwith compelled:

 a)            Not to water and irrigate their gardens from  06:00 and 18:00 every day;

 b)            Only hand held hosepipes or bucket/watering cans are allowed outside these hours.

                Note that this is an additional requirement;

 c)            Not to fill their swimming pools with municipal water; and

 d)            Not to use hosepipes to wash their cars, paved areas, etc.

 Water saving tips

 •      Don’t leave taps dripping;

 •             Take shallow baths; and

 •             Use bathwater or grey-water to water the garden.

 We urge consumers to remain active partners in reducing the amount of water used in the City of Johannesburg,  and to report any form of vandalism and theft of water infrastructure to 0800 00 25 87.

Residents are encouraged to subscribe on our website, to our SMS notification service for alerts on planned or unplanned service interruptions. More information can be obtained on twitter: @jhbwater; facebook: Johannesburg Water and our website www.johannesburgwater.co.za.
