DO you want to be a politician? Do you have a passion for community work? Then, taking part in the Johannesburg Children's Council is for you. All schools in the City of Johannesburg are invited to participate in the City's new Johannesburg Children's Council. The City will be introducing a new Grade 6 Children's Council project in 2008 as a co-initiative to the Grade 11 Student Council project. It will cultivate young people with a citizenship consciousness and empower them by teaching them rights and responsibilities, both as human beings and as citizens, understanding local government.

Progress of Children's Council Programme
Since mid-October, the staff of the Citizenship Department has been doing a road show in the City of Joburg to inform primary schools of this project. Thus far, presentations have been done in four regions namely the north, west and south. Two more presentations will be done next week. Although, all of the schools in Johannesburg were invited to attend these presentations, only 59 schools in total have responded. The aim of this road show is to have a mix of schools across the City in order for it to be completely representative of the diversity of the schools.
