Theatres
There are three theatres in the complex:
- The Mandela Theatre, which can seat 1 069 people and has a stage floor of 400m²;
- The Fringe Theatre, which can seat 251 people and has a stage floor of 72m²; and
- The People’s Theatre, which can seat 176 people and has a stage floor of 52m².
Its staging facilities are among the most sophisticated in the world and, combined with the technical expertise of the stage crew, can make a function memorable.
The main stage, for example, includes:
Five computer-controlled stage lifts, each three metres by 15 metres in size, which can be raised to 3,9 metres above stage level;
Five stage wagons facilitating the movement of sets/cast across the stage;
A 15 metre by 15 metre stage wagon that provides outer and inner revolves;
An adjustable proscenium; and
Extensive sound and lighting options.
Hospitality venues
The theatre has eight, five-star hospitality venues suitable for workshops, presentations, training sessions and board meetings, as well as cocktails and private dinners before shows. They can accommodate from 10 to 150 people. Companies can entertain guests before performances, for drinks during intervals, and for liqueurs and coffee after shows.
Parking
There is secure parking at the theatre, with all parking entrances and exits clearly sign-posted.
A flat fee of R12 is charged for the underground parking, which is open from Tuesday to Friday between 6pm and 3am and on weekends and public holidays from 9am to 3am.
There is also parking for disabled people; call 011 877 6800 to make arrangements.
Box office
Tickets for shows can be bought at the theatre at TKTS, where theatre-goers can select their seating. Tickets can also be bought through Computicket outlets or online. Discounted bookings for groups of 10 or more people can be made by contacting the Theatre directly on 011 877 6853/4.
