Vision
To be the leading African green environment and cemetery management company. The vision flows from that of the City, which is to make Johannesburg an African City competitive with world class standards in every respect.

To develop, maintain and conserve the green environment and cemeteries for present and future generations.

City Parks has its own website .

City Parks aims to develop and maintain all city parks, open spaces, cemeteries and conserved areas.

The following are key areas:
•    Planning, design and landscaping;
•    Park utilisation management;
•    Environmental conservation, including biodiversity management and awareness;
•    Park, open space and cemetery maintenance;
•    Horticultural and arboriculture projects;
•    Bio-aquatic management;
•    Botanic research, monitoring and information sharing;
•    Conservation, rehabilitation, enhancement of ecosystems;
•    Invader species control;
•    Infrastructural maintenance;
•    Nursery operations;
•    Cemeteries management: burials, cremations and archival records;
•    Project management and facilities management; and
•    Training and education projects. 
 



 City Parks is also involved in:

•    Road-island beautification;
•    The development of more water features;
•    The finalisation of a Landscaping Master Plan;
•    Regular park and cemetery development;
•    Reviewing initiatives to enhance safety in parks;
•    Increasing its service portfolio;
•    Providing added value in capital projects;
•    The empowerment of women; and
•    Creating jobs through the Expanded Public Works Programme.
 



Environmental policy

Johannesburg City Parks recognises that it has a responsibility to the environment and will strive to take positive steps to avoid or minimise the impact of its policies and business processes on the environment by means of the continual improvement of its environmental performance to the extent feasible and practicable, in a manner that is consistent with its overall mission and goals.

City Parks supports the principles of sustainable development and will manage environmental risks effectively and seek to realise the opportunities arising from the positive management of its ecological, economic and social responsibilities.

Johannesburg City Parks is committed to:
•    Create and conserve a natural environment that is rich in biodiversity and is managed and maintained according to sound ecological principles.
•    Promote environmental awareness and responsibility amongst all our stakeholders through training, development, education and communication.
•    Incorporate environmental considerations into all operational activities, processes, policies and strategies of Johannesburg City Parks.
•    Develop, maintain and implement an environmental management system (EMS) based on the ISO 14001 standard.
