High tea for Joburg's female councillors will be hosted by the Speaker in celebration of Women's Day. Health will be a focus of the day.
FEMALE councillors will celebrate Woman's Day at a high tea hosted by the Speaker of council, Nkele Ntingane, on Friday, 13 August at the Pavilion Room at Marks Park, Emmarentia.

In keeping with the high tea theme, dress must be elegant or traditional. Health will be a focus of the event, with blood pressure and diabetes testing on offer for the councillors, weight assessments and presentations from Weigh-less, the Department of Health and the Breast Health Foundation, and cervical screenings.
Entertainment will be poetry and karaoke. Speakers on the day will include Myrna Jacobs, Dr Carol-Ann Benn, Mary Holroyd, Elionora Lebethe, Hlelo and Ntando Masina, Bianca Williams and Rumaanah Osman, the Children's Mayor in the Johannesburg Children's Council.
Brenda Andrews, a manager of the Children's Council, said: "This is an opportunity for our children's mayor, Rumaanah, to interact with woman who could definitely be role models for her, and to be exposed to meaningful personalities in our communities."
Jacobs is a lecturer in the department of hospitality at Tshwane University. Students in the department are taught to cook and bake, and are prepared for careers in events management and food services management. Benn is a specialist surgeon and breast disease consultant.
Holroyd is the chairman and founder of Weigh-less, which is celebrating 35 years as the leading health and weight management organisation in South Africa. Lebethe is the deputy director in the Department of Health.
Hlelo and Ntando Masina, also known as The Twinz, are a dynamic duo of Y-FM presenters. They have also appeared on television shows such as Zola 7 and 3Talk with Noeleen.
Williams is a young female poet who has been prominent on hip-hop and poetry stages since early 2000. She is a poet, rapper and singer.
