More parking spaces for motorists
03 January 2011

Motorists who despair of finding parking in Braamfontein, Greenside and other busy areas might be in luck with the City’s new parking scheme.

Motorists from across the city will now be able to park their vehicles on the side of the road in and around the metropolis.

The system will help improve traffic management in the city, said the Johannesburg Metro Police Department Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar.

The new arrangement will include a team of parking wardens patrolling the streets in uniforms clearly bearing the Ace Parking Services logo to make them instantly visible to motorists.

“Motorists will be required to pay the wardens to park on the road side for R7,50 per hour,” said Minnaar.

He explained that the motorists will be issued with a parking slip by the warden who will also enter the car registration number, colour, time and date on a hand held device.

Fines will be issued to those who exceed their times.

“Our aim is to provide a fair system that will ensure adequate parking space for all motorists,” said Minnaar.

The scheme is an innovative partnership between the City and Ace Parking Services to oversee parking in the city.

The new system was introduced in Braamfontein at the beginning of December and will be extended to other areas, including Midrand, Roodepoort, Sandton, Rosebank and Greenside.
