02 March 2011

Tankers have been sent to Randburg to supply water to residents because the water supply has been halted while emergency repair work is being undertaken.

MOST of Randburg, in the northwest, has been hit by a 10-hour water service interruption while a burst pipe on the corner of Harley and Pretoria streets in Ferndale, is repaired.

Johannesburg Water’s marketing and communications manager, Baldwin Matsimela, said the repairs had already begun. “Johannesburg Water wishes to apologise to residents in the affected areas and undertakes to have this emergency disruption resolved as speedily as possible,” he added.

Mobile water tankers have been deployed to help residents. They are at:

  • Abington and Grey streets in Kensington B;
  • Roux and Tulbagh streets in Beverly Gardens;
  • Anchor and Westview streets in Beverly Gardens;
  • Cedar and Kays streets in Bryanston Extension 3;
  • Hill and Main streets in Ferndale;
  • Hylauma and Rocky streets in Ferndale;
  • Jacaranda Avenue and Sasol Garage behind Olivedale Hospital; and
  • Olivedale Hospital.

“The water tankers will provide customers with an alternative water supply until the repair work has been completed and services fully restored,” said Matsimela.
