A group of young orphans in Kibler Park are treated to an early Christmas as the City holds a party.

THE spirit of Christmas filled the air as children from Amazing Grace orphanage in Kibler Park, south of Joburg, were treated to a fun-filled party.

“We hope that by providing these children with some fun we’ll encourage them to believe that things can always get better,” said Twala-Tau.

Around her some 80 youngsters between two and 13 rushed over to bounce on the trampoline and compete with one another in who could jump the highest on the jumping castle.

Those not busy bouncing in the air were splashing and shrieking as they whizzed along a water slide.
House music played loudly in the background.

“I am having fun today,” said 12-year-old Lindokuhle Masina, who added that he planned to “spend my time today playing on the jumping castle”.

The youngsters laughed with excitement when Twala-Tau joined them on the trampoline.
A buffet of snacks and juices sat waiting on the table for when the children got hungry, and a heap of boxes filled with sweets, chocolates, pencils and books stood ready to be handed out to the children at the end of the day.

Twala-Tau thanked the generous businesses and individuals who helped make the party a success. “Many people played a large part in donating items towards the party and we are grateful for the support.” Donations were made by Coca Cola, Bellaskie Food and Enterprise and Lateral Unison.

The director and founder of Amazing Grace, Grace Mashaba said she was “humbled by the generosity of the City and the sponsors”. “This means a lot to the children and hope that this gesture will motivate the children spiritually.”

Amazing Grace provides care and support to orphans and vulnerable children. Currently they take care of 80 children.

Thirteen-year-old Sipho Mahlane, with a wide smile, thanked the City for making such a memorable day.
