All traces of contamination in Diepsloot’s water have been removed and the water meets national standards, making it safe to drink.
DIEPSLOOT’S water is back on form – it is clear of all traces of contamination and is once again safe to drink.
Johannesburg Water says: “The quality of the water in the whole of Diepsloot has now been corrected and meets the South African National Standard 241 and its quality is on par with the rest of Johannesburg.
“We instituted rigorous corrective steps and testing which took us much longer than anticipated and we wish to apologise for the inconvenience caused to the residents. The rectification process included the flushing process, related engineering and scientific processes,” explains the City’s water utility.
It has always endeavoured to protect the livelihood and health of the Diepsloot region and the community citywide, the utility adds.
This is shown by the internationally acclaimed Blue Drop Status, which has been given to Joburg for the past three years, since it was established. The status certifies that Johannesburg Water provides the country’s cleanest drinking water to more than three million people.
In conclusion, Joburg Water says: “Our greatest appreciation goes to the majority of the residents, dedicated staff members and all other stakeholders who were patient and supportive throughout this period.”
