The Healthy Living Lifestyle Campaign begins with a fun walk on Sunday in Soweto. Everyone is invited to take a step towards wellness.
A SUNDAY morning fun walk, of seven kilometres, is taking place at Elmond Molele Park, in Protea North, Soweto on Sunday, 24 June to launch the Healthy Living Lifestyle Campaign.

It will start at 7am and participants are urged to arrive as early as six 6am – everyone is invited. Bongiwe Ngema Zuma, wife of President Jacob Zuma, will be walking. She is an ambassador for diabetes.
Health practitioners will set up stalls for checkups and tests for various illnesses, including tuberculosis, diabetes, HIV and related diseases.
The member of the mayoral committee responsible for health and social development, Nonceba Molwele, explained that the main focus would be on chronic diseases, such as blood pressure, diabetes and HIV.
A variety of health programmes would be contained within the Healthy Living Lifestyle Campaign, which would be rolled out in all seven regions of the City, she said. Regular educational workshops would be incorporated with physical activities to encourage people to exercise.
Molwele said the government could save a lot of money if people took charge of their health. “We need to inculcate the culture of healthy living. Some of the diseases can be stopped if people [are] health conscious. This means regular exercise and eating healthy food.
“In our programme for the year we are going to engage other stakeholders, including restaurant owners, to encourage and advise them to cook health meals. This is not a once-off initiative. We want to be continuous,” she added.
