Ellis Park swimming pools

THE council owns 58 swimming pools in all seven city regions to keep residents cool during the hot summer season. Most of these pools are open from September 1 to March 31. Ellis Park and Newclare are Olympic-sized pools. The Linden, Ellis Park, Pimville and Coronationville pools are heated.

Of the 58 swimming pools, 4 are permanently closed and they are; Rhodes Park, Murray Park, Mayfair and Lenasia ext 2, currently 53 swimming pools are open to the public.

The Linden swimming pool is under construction at the moment, the main delivery pipe, i.e., the under ground pipes supplying water to this pool ruptured, a construction company was appointed to do repairs and maintenance and they are currently busy changing the old rusted steel pipes and replacing them with PVC pipes.

It is envisaged that this pool might be completed and officially opened to the public at the end of November 2010.

The Linden pool is a heated pool and is open for swimming throughout the year /12 months and is not seasonal; therefore, there is a massive pressure from ordinary swimmers and also organized aquatic events such as gala, water polo and professional coaching which are organized in this Aquatic centre.
