The Johannesburg Tourism Company (JTC), a tourism entity of the City of Johannesburg, at the weekend used the Beeld Holiday Show held at the Gallagher Convention Centre as a window to the city’s multitudes of lifestyle and leisure portfolio.

The Beeld Holiday Show is a consumer exhibition that showcases holiday destinations and activities, giving visitors the opportunity to view hundreds of options under one roof. Hundreds and hundreds of people flocked to the show during the two-day duration of the show, with many visiting the Johannesburg exhibition stand.

“Our diverse and vibrant city, with its full calendar of events and attractions, merits an extended stay, beyond business. Joburg boasts excellent air and transport access, infrastructure, a diverse accommodation offering, along with entertainment, nightlife, retail, arts, culture and heritage,” said JTC acting chief executive officer Phelisa Mangcu.

“Our presence in the show communicated all these aspects, with excellent design and visuals to highlight leisure offerings and activities in Joburg – outdoor, adventure, sports, entertainment and lifestyle.”

Besides marketing Joburg as a holiday destination of choice, JTC places great importance on growing tourism awareness in the domestic market, with a special emphasis on local residents by encouraging them to enjoy and explore their own backyard.

“Joburg boasts layer upon layer of fascinating history – from its ancient past and its mining origins to its more recent social and political history. Added to this is the inner city revitalisation, which is under way, and the constant growth, development and increase in interesting attractions, activities and tourism products.

“A prime example of this is the addition of the unmissable, bright red City Sightseeing buses to our tourism offering, putting us in the same league as 100 other cities worldwide offering a quick, convenient and safe access to many of the city’s iconic landmarks and attractions,” said Mangcu.
