Moscow’s Imperial Russian Ballet, one of the most successful ballet companies from that city, itself known for its dance, performs Carl Orff’s, Carmina Burana. Orff’s composition is a scenic cantata composed in 1935 and 1936, based on 24 of the poems found in the medieval collection of the same name. The second half of the programme features Charles Gounod’s Walpurgis Night, a one act ballet from the opera Faust; Rimsky Korsakov’s Adagio from the ballet Scheherezade; Ludwig Minkus’s Grand Pas de Deux, from the ballet Don Quixote; and Jacques Offenbach’s Can Can Surprise.
