The City of Johannesburg is currently embarking on a process to conduct a comprehensive review of its current Climate Change Adaptation Plan which was launched in 2009 in order to integrate and to prioritize strategic investments and activities to reduce climate risks.
If climate variability is to increase, it is necessary to understand how climate impacts on the different sectors and their resultant vulnerability. This will focus attention on where priority interventions might reduce the impacts of climate change and help the city to easily adapt, rather than react when the damage has already been done.
Amongst other urgent local adaptation priorities, the review will focus on the enhancement of early warning systems across the city, cost –benefit analysis, heat-wave response plan etc. Climate Change Adaption Plan.
