The Executive Mayor of the City of Johannesburg Cllr Geoff Makhubo together with the MMC for Housing Cllr Mlungisi Mabaso, will be handing over units to over 100 beneficiaries at Fleurhof, south west of Johannesburg on 25 August 2020.
The handing over of units comes after Calgro M3, the chosen developer, has now officially handed over a few housing units to the Department of Housing in the City of Johannesburg. Notwithstanding the damage caused by invasions a two weeks ago, the developer is currently on-site refurbishing hundreds if not thousands of units that were damaged during evictions.
The Fleurhof integrated human settlement development was officially launched by then Human Settlements Minister Tokyo Sexwale in September 2012. Fleurhof is one of the Gauteng’s largest integrated housing projects that will bridge the gap between the rich and the poor.
The project consists of various types of housing opportunities and forms of tenure. These include fully subsidized housing, social housing for the rental, finance linked for the gap housing market and affordable bonded housing.
Furthermore, the project is a partnership between the National Department of Human Settlements, Gauteng Provincial Government and Housing Department in the City of Johannesburg.
It is therefore our intention as the City to ensure that we provide our residents with dignified housing units across the City.
