Residents of Joburg can look forward to the announcement of new proposed developments by the Executive Mayor, Councillor Amos Masondo in his State of the City Address on Thursday 28 February 2008.

The Mayoral State of the City Address (SCA) at the opening of Council is one of the most important events of the year.

The Speaker of Council, Councillor Ntingane said, "Although, the Council of Johannesburg has already met this year, the formal opening is when the Executive Mayor makes the "State of the City Address."

"The State of the City Address sets targets for what should be achieved in this calendar year, it is therefore important for every community member in Johannesburg, as it allows all of us to evaluate the performance of the administration and service delivery in the City."

It should be noted that from 8.30am Rissik Street will be closed at corner De Korte. Jorissen Street from corner Jan Smuts, De Beers, Melle, Biccard and Harrison will also be closed.

Troops of 21 Battalion will line both sides of the street from corner Jorissen and Loveday Extension, leading up to the western entrance of the piazza at the Metro Centre.

The Speaker of Council, Councillor Ntingane said, "The cavalcade will conclude with a wreath laying at the flag station on the Piazza of the Metro Centre, in memory of all City staff who have died in the line of duty."

At about 11.00am the Speaker will officially open Council, welcome guests and the Executive Mayor will deliver his speech.
