2008-05-23: Council foregoes dinner in support of displaced families

DURING its budget debate today, Council resolved to forego its traditional dinner and instead have the food sent to families displaced by the recent attacks on foreign nationals.

Yesterday, Council had similarly resolved to forego lunch and have the food sent to the affected areas.

During the session various councillors again condemned the violence and reiterated the call for councilors and staff especially from the Community Development Department, Emergency Services and Johannesburg Metro Police to continue with the sterling work done thus far.

"Joburg, a City where community development, personal growth and social mobility are enhanced so that challenges of poverty, vulnerability, inequality and social exclusion are fundamentally addressed".
