2008-06-17: Executive Mayor Amos Masondo amongst the people
THE Executive Mayor of Johannesburg Councillor Amos Masondo will be visiting Region G on Friday 20 June 2008.
Mayoral road shows provide the Executive Mayor, members of the Mayoral Committee and senior officials an opportunity to interact with residents as well as see first hand implementation of capital projects and service delivery challenges.
Region G, formerly known as Region 11 has its head office in Lenasia Ext 10, Corobrick Municipal Complex on the K43 Highway. It comprises of the areas of Eldorado Park, Lenasia, Zachariya Park, Ennerdale, Poortjie, Lawley, Vlakfontein, Protea Glen Extensions, Protea South and Orange Farm.
A highlight of the road show will be issuing of title deeds to 496 homeowners in Vlakfontein Extension. In Orange Farm, Councillor Masondo will officially launch a road development project in Ward Two.
Region G also boasts several farms that are part of agricultural initiatives undertaken by local communities. Since its inception in 2006 the Mahata Mmoho farming project- southern Sotho for unity is strength-, employs 238 skilled and unskilled workers. Due to its success, the Department of Public works approved R30million to further support farming cooperatives in the Region.
Several walkabouts are planned for the Kliptown Informal Settlement, Eldorado Park CBD, Slovo Park and Hospital Hill. This will give the delegation a sense of community perception and frustrations with regard to service delivery.
Of concern to the delegation will be the recent protest marches, density of informal settlements, environmental hazards, socio economic decline and the need to fast track development in terms of the Regional Urban Management Plan (RUMP).
