2008-07-22: COJ on Cosatu protest action

THE City of Johannesburg has put together contingency plans in the light of the planned protest action by COSATU on Wednesday 23 July 2008.

The City will do its best to ensure that all essential services which include, Metro Police, Clinics, Ambulance and Fire services etc. are not affected by this planned action.

The administration will treat employees who absent themselves without prior notice on a principle of: "No work, No pay" and misconduct action be considered against them.

Pikitup may experience disruptions in certain areas. In cases where this arise, the utility has appealed to customers to hold back waste until the next collection circle. On that day, a special effort will be made to collect accumulated waste and any other additional material that cannot fit in a bin.

Services at places like the Medical Centres and daily client like restaurants who are also classified as essential services, will continue as usual.

Johannesburg Water and City Power will have a team on stand-by to attend to any emergency situations.

The Revenue department will maintain a skeleton staff at most of its pay-points. Customers are however encouraged to use major shopping outlets, Post Office and banking institutions.

The City would like to apologise for any possible disruption of services and will endeavour to do its best to keep its services running.
