EXECUTIVE Mayor of Johannesburg, Clr Amos Masondo, pays tribute to Mr Stan Nkosi, the Chairperson of the Johannesburg Development Agency who passed away on Wednesday 23 July 2008.
On behalf of the City of Johannesburg and all its citizens, we send our heart-felt condolences to the Nkosi family. May God the Almighty be with you in this difficult moment in your life.
Mr Nkosi was one of the prime architects of the new Johannesburg' that has emerged under democratic governance in the past decade.
Under his visionary leadership the JDA has undertaken a number of projects to transform the face of Johannesburg and to bring us closer to our goal of creating a world class.
Projects such as the Nelson Mandela Bridge, the Newtown Development, Constitution Hill and the Urban Development Zone are all living monuments of the work done by the JDA under Stan Nkosi's leadership.
Mr Nkosi was a prominent figure in the struggle against apartheid and in the establishment of a vibrant labour movement. In later years he became a very successful businessman in his own right yet devoted a significant amount of his time to his duties as chairperson of the JDA.
