2008-08-27: Your pharmacy cares for you

The City of Johannesburg Health Department together with the Provincial and National Health Departments and the Pharmaceutical Society of South Africa are embarking on an intensive health promotion, literacy and advocacy on issues pertaining to the delivery of pharmaceutical services and patient care, as part of the Pharmacy Week that takes place on the 01st – 08th September 2008, with this year’s theme being “Your pharmacy cares for you”.
The City of Johannesburg boasts a pharmacy depot based in the Langlaagte area. The pharmaceutical unit is responsible for procuring and supplying primary health care drugs to all health sub-districts in Johannesburg. All 84 City Of Johannesburg’s clinics get their drugs supplies from this unit. The City of Joburg is proud to be part of this event.

This is an annually event that seeks to heighten the levels of understanding of the communities on issues pertaining to pharmaceutical care of the patient.

The key messages are:

The benefits of medicines vs possible side effects
Reliable, consistent and sustainable supply of safe, effective and affordable medicines
    Proper management of medical waste
Ways to prevent spreading of HIV, AIDS and TB
The value of a healthy lifestyle – exercises; eat a healthy diet; avoid smoking; moderate or no alcohol at all and says no to drugs.
