2008-09-19: JW replacing pipelines in Florida
JOHANNESBURG Water (JW), the water and sanitation service provider for the City of Johannesburg wishes to inform residents living in Florida west of Johannesburg, of a project to upgrade the existing water mains in the area.
The primary objective of this project is to replace water mains in Goldman, Fieldhouse, Third, Mary, Main and Rhodes Streets in order to minimize frequent water pipe bursts. At a total cost of R2,8 million the project will comprise the installation of approximately 1250 mitres of pipeline with a diameter of 250mm high impact Class 16 pipes and 1190m of pipeline with a diameter of 110mm high impact Class 16 pipes.
The construction is to commence on 22 September 2008 and the overall project to install the above mentioned infrastructure is expected to be completed by 30 January 2009. Johannesburg Water is aware of the problems that are caused by old and outdated municipal water infrastructure, and it has put comprehensive programmes in place to upgrade and rehabilitate municipal water infrastructure throughout the City of Johannesburg.
Johannesburg Water does not foresee any service disruption relating to water supply to the residents during the upgrade. The company will however notify residents of planned traffic control or diversions in advance as part of the project will be going through the main street of the Central Business District.
Johannesburg Water is committed to improving the level of water and sanitation services and appeals to residents to contact its 24hour call centre on 011 688 1500 to report both water and sewer service related problems.
