10-12-2014: City of Joburg announces the appointment of Mr Makhudu
The City of Johannesburg Council today approved the appointment of Mr. Makhudu Sefara to the position of Group Executive Head: Communication and Marketing.
The appointment is part of the City’s Institutional Review Process (IRP) which seeks to ensure that the City reaches its goal of a being a world class African
city. Council also took a decision to separate the Tourism function from the former Group Communications and Tourism Department and move it to Economic Development Department. The Tourism Unit will focus more on marketing the City of Johannesburg in South Africa as well as globally as an investment and tourism destination. Ms. Nabintu Petsana, who previously headed both functions of Group Communication & Tourism will be heading the City’s Tourism Unit.
The new Group Communications and Marketing Department will continue to manage the overall reputation and image of the City of Joburg and enhancing the CoJ brand.
The Department will be responsible for Communications, Marketing and Events Management functions in the City of Johannesburg.
The appointment of Mr. Sefara comes as the City of Johannesburg continues to assess its performance in order to enhance its service delivery mandate. The IRP seeks to align the activities of the institution to the Growth and Development Strategy (GDS) – Joburg 2040, which will result in an effective and modern system that will strengthen accountability, oversight, transparency and governance.
Mr. Sefara has eighteen (18) years of journalism combined with ten (10) years of management experience. He was a Deputy Chairperson of the South African National Editors’ Forum (Sanef) and former editor of The Star Newspaper. He previously held the position of Chairperson of the Media freedom Sub Committee and was named editor of the year at the 2014 National Standard Bank Sikuvile Awards.
When welcoming the new appointee, the City Manager of the City of Johannesburg, Mr. Trevor Fowler said, “We wish to congratulate him on this exciting journey, may it be a successful and fulfilling chapter. The people of Johannesburg deserve only the best.”
