The Johannesburg Roads Agency ( JRA ) is shocked and deeply saddened by the tragic passing today of two Bramfisherville (Phase 2) Jukskei, boys aged between 7 and 10, who were unfortunately crushed by a stormwater pipe as a result of an accident at a JRA project site.

A contractor appointed by the Agency is currently installing an underground stormwater drainage system in the area. The JRA has learned that both children died on the scene.

"The JRA is deeply saddened by this accident and loss of life in a project that is intended to improve the lives of the community of Bramfischerville. We offer our sincerest condolences to the families and the community for this shocking loss of the two young lives, " stated Skhumbuzo Macozoma, JRA Managing Director, " The JRA will investigate the cause of the accident and ensure that all necessary parties are consulted and involved including the SAPS and the Department of Labour, to conclude all necessary processes".

The JRA will engage the contractor that is responsible for implementation of the project to ensure that they are available to provide any support that may be necessary at this time. We want to reassure the community that the JRA will provide necessary support to the affected families and ensure that where negligence is found, the responsible parties are held to account.
