26-08-2014: Go Jozi weight loss challenge
The City of Johannesburg “GO JOZI GO ACTIVE HEALTHY LIFESTYLE” initiative hosts the first ever Weight Loss Challenge at Moletsane Sport Complex, Soweto on Saturday, 30 August 2014 from 9h00.
Since the 4th of May 2013, the City’s Social Development Department has been engaging with communities on education and promoting an active healthy eating and participating in physical activities. Now the City introduces its first ever Weight Loss Challenge.
The purpose is to attract community members who want to change their lifestyles through healthy eating and proper exercise. It’s not about looks but it’s more about one’s health.
Obesity is a chronic disease and it is estimated that at least 1.1 billion adults around the world are overweight and that 312 million are obese. Obesity is a major risk factor for coronary heart disease, high blood pressure, stroke, diabetes and some forms of cancer. After tobacco use, obesity is the second leading cause of preventable deaths. About three in five South Africans are overweight or obese.
Participants will be taught how to prepare food, given a healthy eating and exercise plan. It is up to every individual to work on their own plans and make sure that they stick to their goals. This is one opportunity the City is offering for individuals to change their lifestyles.
The launch of the Weight Loss Challenge Programme will take place as follows:
Date: Saturday, 30 August 2014
Time: 08h00
Venue: Moletsane Sports Complex
