Inner City revitalisation–Mashaba tours buildings marked for housing development
Today, the Executive Mayor of the City of Johannesburg, Cllr Herman Mashaba, will conduct visits to some of the 12 City owned properties made available by Council for the purpose of creating quality low cost housing within the inner city.
Last week, the City’s Council approved our plan for tackling the housing challenge within the inner city and creating safe, clean and connected communities with access to economic opportunities. Since coming into office, revitalising the inner city has been a critical component of our administration.
It is estimated that some 30 000 accommodation units are required in the short term to address the needs of the most vulnerable households within the City.
Tomorrow, the City will be inviting developers within the private sector to submit proposals for the development of these buildings.
Working together with private developers, the City will be better able to meet the increasing demand for quality low income housing.
Details of the visits are as follows:

Time: 10h00 – 10h30
Address: 17 South Street, Yeoville
