The City of Johannesburg would like to advise customers about VAT changes in line with National Treasury guidelines.

Customers will notice that for the month of April 2018, VAT was levied at 14% & 15% on their municipal statements. This was due to the period of supply of our services covering the months of March and April 2018.

During this transitional period, there may be some consumption from the month of March VAT charged at 14%, and another portion of consumption charged VAT at 15% in April 2018 respectively.

Furthermore, it would have been unfair to charge VAT at 15% on consumption related to a period prior to the VAT rate change/increase.

All your future invoices effective from 1st of April 2018 will indicate only the 15% VAT.

The City would like to apologise to our customers for the inconvenience caused.
