Work is forging ahead on resolving customers’ billing queries, with many applying for a discount, says the City. In all, it received 65 000 queries.
THE City’s revenue department is making headway in resolving its billing queries, which arose after a new billing system was introduced.

Residents complained about inflated water and electricity bills, but the City is working to resolve the queries it received.
This will continue, as will a discount scheme to bring some relief to customers who might have waited too long for the resolution of a query, according to Maphologela.
To date, 867 customers have applied to be considered for a discount, prompted by their logging a query.
“We are busy resolving these queries, after which the customers will make a payment or an arrangement to pay. Then the account will be considered for approval by the discount committee.”
In total 65 000 queries have been received, of which 51 388 have been resolved.
The City sends out 1,2 million billing statements per month, of which 750 000 are sent to residential stands.
Maphologela added that the City’s customer service centres had already contacted more than 80 percent of those affected by the billing crisis to resolve their issues.
“City officials are working around the clock to resolve the remaining 13 612 queries,” said Maphologela.
To learn more about the discount scheme, customers can visit a City customer care centre or they can phone the Joburg Connect call centre on 011 375 5555. A reference number will be given to them.
