PEOPLE living or working along the new Rea Vaya Phase 1B route are already reaping the benefits of travelling withSouth Africa’s most sophisticated Bus Rapid Transport system.

Since Rea Vaya’s new routes were implemented, commuters and businesses have gained from the new convenience. Be it getting to work on time or having more customers through the doors, Joburgers have certainly taken a liking to the city’s new presence.

Professionals and students have already adopted Rea Vaya as their main form of transport, due to its convenience, regularity and dependability; ideal for a city filled with people on the move.

Mmaphefo Madupe works in Westdene, just a few blocks from the Rea Vaya station outside Helen Joseph Hospital on Perth Road.

“Getting to work is so much easier now because coming from Parktown where I live, I just have to walk down to the BP station and catch a Rea Vaya bus on Empire that drops me close to work,” says Madupe.

“I used to have to go to town in the opposite direction to get a taxi going to where I work and was sometimes late; I’m never late for work now.”
Having recently extended its reach to Westbury along the F8 route, Rea Vaya’s continued growth gives our city’s residents even more to look forward to, and commuters are pleased the system is being synchronised.

“What I really like about the new system is that the stations are in all the right places,” says Mlungisi Ledwaba, one of many students living in the Westdene area.
“Going to see my boys and getting into town is easy now; one bus and I’m there.”

Residents who have yet to experience travelling on Rea Vaya can visit a participating convenience store along the new routes and register, with their identification book or passport, to buy a smart card. Once their information has been verified they can load money onto their new Rea Vaya cards at any station, then hop onto the city’s most advanced version of its transport system, going places in hassle-free comfort.

New Rea Vaya feeder routes will be implemented in January and February 2014.
