A Re Sebetseng - City partners with Global Citizen to bring change
Last week, Mayor Herman Mashaba met with Global Citizen, an advocacy organization dedicated to ending extreme poverty by the year 2030.
The organization encourages all of us to learn and take individual action for the benefit of all our communities.
Some of the key objectives include:
- Encouraging world leaders to make commitments around the issues associated with extreme poverty: gender equality;
- food security;
- education;
- caring for the environment;
- global health; and
- Improving sanitation.
On the 2nd of December 2018, the organisation will be hosting the Global Citizen Festival Mandela 100 at FNB Stadium in Johannesburg. This is a free-ticketed event, featuring Beyoncé, JAY-Z, Cassper Nyovest, D'banj, Ed Sheeran, Eddie Vedder, Femi Kuti, Pharrell Williams and Chris Martin, Sho Madjozi, Tiwa Savage, Usher, and Wizkid. Lead hosts include Naomi Campbell, Sir Bob Geldof, Gayle King, Tyler Perry, and Forest Whitaker.
70% of the tickets to the Global Citizen Festival Mandela 100 are free for action takers. All you need to do is take action on Global Citizen's platform to become eligible to win a free ticket.
As part of this, the City of Johannesburg will be looking for ways to partner with Global Citizens to give residents the opportunity to earn points for tickets by participating in the City's A Re Sebetseng monthly clean-up campaign.
A Re Sebetseng is a monthly clean-up campaign where residents volunteer to clean-up their neighborhoods on every third Saturday of every month.
This ensures that Johannesburg becomes that attracts investment and ensures our residents live, work and play in a healthy environment.
